Vanuatu REDD+ Proposal Approved

A Delegation from Vanuatu is currently attending the Participants Committee on REDD+ (Carbon Credits for simplicity) in Washington DC. The Delegation is made up of Director, Environment (Albert Williams), Live and Learn Representtive (NGO/CSO), Chief Stephen Ser (Indigenous People rep), Mr. Bjoern (GIZ Advisor) and Iona Viji (National REDD+ Coordinator)
The Resoution for Vanuatu is now accepted and endorsed by PC14, which means that we will be eligible for approximately USD3.6m for our REDD+ activities in Vanuatu. This is a huge milestone for the country as far as climate change and REDD+ is concerned as work commenced in 2009 to put together the REDD+ Readiness Preparation Proposal (R-PP) in 2011. The REDD+ Team submitted the Final R-PP at the end of Feb 2013 following reviews and approval for presentation.
The Vanuatu Government is very grateful for the extensive support provided by Development Partners including the World Bank, GIZ and Live and Learn for their inputss and efforts into the process. This approval/endorsement marks another step as we still need to work on approved recommendations befor signing the Grant Agreement for theUSD3.6m
