Germany funds Melanesian Spearhead Group

Fiji and four other members of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) will benefit from a financing agreement signed in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The agreement was signed by Dr Wulf Killmann of Germany and Mr Peter Forau on Wednesday January 16 at the Secretariat Headquarters in Port Vila.
Dr Killman is the head of the German Agency for International Co-operation (GIZ) and Mr Forau is the Director-General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).
The Government of Germany through the German Ministry of Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ) has provided a grant of 200,000 euros to the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat.
The funds will be channelled through the Regional Programme “Coping with Climate Change in the Pacific Island Region” jointly implemented by SPC and the German Agency for International Co-operation (GIZ), and be used to support the placement of an Environment and Climate Change Officer at the MSG Secretariat in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ratu Inoke Kubuabola recently concluded a tour of the capital cities of Melanesian Spearhead Group member countries.
His visits commemorated the 25 years of the establishment of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).
