Assisting LDCs to mainstream climate change risks and opportunities into national and sectoral planning processes

An increasing number of LDCs are working towards identifying technical, institutional and financial needs to integrate climate change risks and opportunities into ongoing medium and long-term national planning processes. UNDP and UNEP, together with a number of partners from the UN System (FAO, UNITAR, UNFCCC and others) as well as GIZ and the Global Water Partnership (GWP) are assisting Least Developed Countries with this important task through the National Adaptation Plan Global Support Programme(NAP-GSP). Currently, 24 LDCs are supported to understand the NAP Guidelines as developed by the UNFCCC/Least Developed Expert Group (LEG), identify entry points in current planning processes, and take action to strengthen country systems to better manage threats and opportunities of climate change on key sectors.

Asian LDCs sensitized on the NAP process

Asian LDCs gathered to discuss the UNFCCC's National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Process and share experiences, lessons and challenges.

Last week, the NAP-GSP held a training workshop entitled Supporting Countries to Advance their National Adaptation Plan Process. The event brought together delegates from Ministries of Environment, Planning and Finance from eight Asian LDCs. In the spirit of South-South Collaboration, delegates from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao, Nepal, Timor Leste as well as Yemen, gathered to discuss mainstreaming climate change risks and opportunities into their existing planning processes.  » Read More
