The action begins! We're launching the next phase of the Pacific Climate Warriors campaign, to#StandUpForThePacific in 2014.

On Saturday April 12th, Warriors from 10 - 15 Pacific Islands will rise up with music, dance and strong voices to mark the start of their canoe builds. These traditional style canoes (paupau) will be made by the Warriors over the next few months, to be taken with them on a historic journey to Australia. In Australia, they will use the canoes to communicate the message that they will stand up to the fossil fuel industry and its supporters, in order to protect their islands in the face of climate change.

Over the last few months, Pacific Climate Warrior Trainings have taken place involving: Papua New Guinea, Niue, Vanuatu, Samoa, Fiji, Tokelau, American Samoa & Nauru. In the coming weeks trainings will be held in the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, Tonga, Kiribati, Federated States of Micronesia and the Solomon Islands. These newly trained Pacific Climate Warriors are ready to start sending their message to both the international community and the people of the Pacific.

We'll be in touch with further updates of how you can be involved with the Day of Action, but for now, we would love you to help us spread the word about the Canoe Building Day of Action on April 12th. Here's how you can do that:

  • Click here or on the image above to SHARE and LIKE the Day of Action banner on Facebook.

  • Download the banner from this link (simply right click on the image and select "Save as"), and set it as your Facebook cover photo.

  • Tweet and retweet the information on our website at this link here, announcing the Day of Action using the hashtags #StandUpForThePacific #PacificWarriorsVoyage.

While the main concern for many powerful countries such as Japan, Canada and our Pacific neighbour, Australia, is to prop up the fossil fuel industry, our main concern is to make 2014 the year the Pacific Warriors stands up for itself in the face of the fossil fuel industry. We need you to stand with us in any way you can - because together we can weave a story so powerful, it will be retold for generations to come.

Onwards and upwards!
