GENDER in the 2013 UNFCCC SUBMISSIONS
Dear all,
In 2013 there are a number of UNFCCC submissions that welcome input from Parties as well as 'relevant organizations' and/or 'accredited observer organizations'. Many of these submissions are particularly relevant for the inclusion of gender equality issues. While the secretariat has compiled a full list of submission deadlines at this link, WEDO has compiled submission deadlines that seem more directly relevant for the inclusion of gender equality issues in the attached document. GGCA organizations may consider, especially those accredited to the UNFCCC, sending submissions that integrate gender equality issues.
Two quickly approaching deadlines are especially relevant and it would be great to have submissions including gender issues from organizations.
Guidelines for the formulation of National Adaptation Plans:
DEADLINE: February 13, 2013 SUBMIT TO: cool@unfccc.int
Parties and relevant organizations are requested to submit information on their experiences with the application of guidelines for the NAPs process for LDCs. Attached, WEDO has compiled a list of questions for Parties based on the current NAPs guidelines, which can also be relevant for organizations working on adaptation plans in country.We encourage GGCA organizations working on national adaptation planning processes to make submissions of their experiences that include gender issues (perhaps using the attached questions as guidance in doing so).
Organization of the 2nd and subsequent meetings of the Durban Forum on Capacity-Building:
DEADLINE: February 18, 2013 SUBMIT TO: cool@unfccc.int
Views from Parties on specific issues to be considered at the 2nd meeting of the Durban Forum and on the potential enhancement of the organization of the Durban Forum. Decisions from COP16 and COP17 decide to and emphasize the importance of "taking into account gender aspects". We want to encourage Parties to include gender as an issue to be considered at the 2nd meeting of the Durban Forum to further understand and give examples what "taking into account gender aspects" in capacity building activities really means. This may be an opportunity to connect with Parties your organizations are connected to about this issue so they can be encouraged to include gender in their submissions on capacity building.
