| Smart National Adaptation Planning (SNAP) | ||

Integrating adaptation to long-term consequences of climate change into national planning poses significant challenges, especially for least developed countries. Therefore, the UNFCCC has invited organisations working in this field to provide financial and technical support to developing country parties to plan, prioritise and implement their national adaptation planning measures (5/CP.17). In response to this demand, in October 2012 GIZ’s Climate Protection Programme set up a new activity called Smart National Adaptation Planning (SNAP). SNAP consists of two modules. Module one provides outreach and exchange on specific NAP-related topics within the broader international community of stakeholders. Module two provides individual support for the NAP process of selected partner countries. As a first element for the country-specific assistance of SNAP, a tool was developed that helps partner countries to assess their strengths and weaknesses with regard to ongoing adaptation planning.
