Asia-Pacific Training for Policymakers and Practitioners on
Migration, Environment, Climate Change and Adaptation
21 – 23 March 2013, Seoul, Republic of Korea
Dear Readers,
Asia-Pacific region has experienced many extreme weather events in recent years which have led to large numbers of people at high level of exposure to risks including the risk of forced migration. With climate change as an exacerbating factor, migration flows are likely to increase in the Asia Pacific region.
In response, International Organization for Migration (IOM), together with the Foresight Programme (Government Office for Science, UK), the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will conduct a training for policymakers and practitioners on the migration-environment nexus.
The training takes place over two and a half days in the Seoul metropolitan area. Leading experts from around the world will lead each training module.
Objectives
- Build capacity of policymakers and practitioners in order to factor migration into environmental and development policies, climate change adaptation strategies, and to factor environmental change into the comprehensive migration management policies of each country;
- Facilitate policy exchange among policymakers and practitioners on migration, environment and climate change

Target Audience
The training targets policymakers and practitioners dealing either with migration matters or with environment, climate change (adaptation), development and disaster preparedness and who can share their national experience and engage with their counterparts in other governments.
Sponsorship
A limited number of participants from the developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region can be sponsored for the training.
The organizers will approve sponsorship on a case by case basis.
Sponsorship includes:
· Travel arrangements and travel costs
· Accommodation for three nights including breakfast (Check-in: Wednesday, 20 March 2013; Check-out: Saturday, 23 March 2013)
· Lunch is provided at the training for three days.
· Dinner is provided on Wednesday and Thursday, 20-21 March 2013.
(Arranging and obtaining a visa to enter Republic of Korea is the responsibility of the participant.)

Partners
The training will be held back-to-back with and will be launched at the Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum, held in Korea from 18 to 20 March 2013.
