SEA Change CoP delivered a webinar attended by 106 people on Friday February 15 2013, 4:00 PM (ICT / UTC+7), with the title:
“Monitoring and Evaluation of Climate Change Adaptation Interventions: What can we learn from existing CCA M&E Frameworks and Principles?”.
This webinar was organized as a warm-up towards the Climate Change M&E panel discussions at the South Asian Evaluation Conclave 2013 taking place in Kathmandu February 26 – March 1. This webinar summarized advantages, disadvantages, applicability and lessons learned from 8 climate change adaptation M&E frameworks, systems and principles documents. The documents being reviewed are:
- UNDP Proposed Framework for Monitoring Adaptation to Climate Change (UNDP, 2007-2008)
- Evaluation of Adaptation to Climate Change from a Development Perspective (IDS Sussex, GEF-EO, DFID, 2008);
- Synthesis report on efforts undertaken to monitor and evaluate the implementation of adaptation projects, policies and programmes and the costs and effectiveness of completed projects, policies and programmes, and views on lessons learned, good practices, gaps and needs (UNFCCC, 2010);
- Tracking progress for effective action: A framework for monitoring and evaluating adaptation to climate change (GEF Climate-Eval, 2011);
- Learning to ADAPT: monitoring and evaluation approaches in CCA and DRR – challenges, gaps and ways forward (SCR, 2011);
- IIED Climate Change working paper 1: Tracking adaptation and measuring development (IIED, 2011);
- Making adaptation count: Concepts and options for monitoring and evaluation of climate change adaptation (GIZ, WRI, 2011);
- AdaptME Toolkit for monitoring and evaluation of adaptation activities (UKCIP, 2011).
The webinar recording guides you through these documents at a high pace of 4 minutes per publication, informing you about the approach or perspective taken by the authors, how these publications are inter-linked, what their specific applicability is and what can be learned, ie. what are the key issues to be taken into account when monitoring and evaluating climate change adaptation interventions.
