After a successful Coastal Hazard Management Short Course held in 2013 with more than 40 participants from local government, industry and universities, we are delighted to bring you the second edition, covering coastal hazard management theory and practice relevant to Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
Background:
Coastal communities in Australia and the Asia Pacific Region are frequently challenged by hazards such as cyclones and storm surges, and by the constant, long-term dynamics of the shorelines responding to climatic forces. As a result, erosion and storm tide inundation threaten coastal settlements and infrastructure. Climate variability and change, including sea level rise trends, possible changes in weather patterns, will likely add additional pressure on coastal communities across the region. The burden of the responsibility for managing these risks resides with local governments, following State advice and requirements, which may differ from State and Territories or national jurisdictions at a larger scale.

Cancellations:
Notification in writing within a minimum of two weeks before the course for a 90% refund. No refunds will be available after this date. If the nominated delegate is unable to attend, the registration is transferable to other staff from the same organisation.
Minimum Numbers:
The cost of this course has been kept to a minimum. As a consequence, we reserve the right to postpone this course should delegate numbers be insufficient with full refund.

- Study Tour of the Gold Coast. The study tour will include a visit to the main coastal management hotspots of the Gold Coast, including the Tweed River Sand Bypass System, the iconic beaches of Palm Beach, Burleigh Heads and Surfers Paradise and the artificial reef at Narrowneck.
Purpose of this Course:
This is a professional development course designed to improve the understanding of coastal hazard dynamics, modelling and impacts and to develop skills for shoreline management and coastal hazard adaptation planning.
