The NAB Secretariat and the Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation (DEPC) jointly conducted a Rio Conventions awareness activity for students of the National University of Vanuatu.

World Fisheries Day is celebrated annually on November 21. The annual event recognises the importance of our fisheries whether it’s coastal or offshore. Additionally, it is a call for restoration of some of our degraded ecosystems that support important fisheries. One of which is seagrass.

Port Vila, Vanuatu: An inception meeting on the Management and Conservation of Blue Carbon Ecosystems (MACBLUE) project took place earlier last week with Vanuatu government and civil society representatives at the Melanesian Hotel in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

‘We women depend on fishing along the coastline to provide fish for our families but most of our catch now are much smaller than the ones we caught here the past years,’ says Jennie Jenery, a villager from Efate Island in Vanuatu.

This week, over 30 Environmental Rangers from across Western Santo met in the high-mountain village of Valapei to refine their skills on using mobile phone apps to map culturally and ecologically significant resources within their custom conservation areas.
