Efate CSO Consultation on Climate Change and REDD+ - August 15th - 19th
A Consultation on Climate Change and REDD+ is happening next week for Efate CSOs commencing on Monday 15th through to Friday 19th, the workshop will be held at Epule Village, Efate. This Consultation is coordinated by VANGO and the National REDD+ Unit to implement the Readiness Preparation Proposal (RPP) of the REDD+ in Vanuatu. Please find in this link the workshop agenda. The workshop is also open to VCAN members, therefore, feel free to drop in any day during the week that suits you to be part of the consultation.
Greetings and I trust this email finds you well. First of all, a very BIG thank you from the Secretariat to all of you who had contributed in one way or another in the success of the Efate CSO Consultation on Climate Change and REDD+ held last week at the Epule Village.
The Secretariat also wishes to extend its gratitude to those presenters who took their time to attend the Efate CSO Consultation on Climate Change and REDD+ at the Epule Village and who made wonderful presentations in the REDD+ strategic options on Agro-Forestry, Conservation, Aqua-Culture, Livestock, Silvi-Pastoral and Eco-Tourism.
The presentations have tremendously enhanced the understanding and knowledge of the reps of the indigenous peoples of Efate on the various strategic options to alleviate pressure from our forests, climate change adaptation and on 'what is REDD+'.
Secondly, note that I have attached for the Platform an e-copy of the final GIZ REDD+ project report for your consideration. The project goal was set as: The conservation of forest ecosystems in the Pacific Island Countries is supported in order to mitigate climate change and protect biodiversity.
The Secretariat would be grateful if you could read and familiarise yourselves with this report and the work on preparedness and the readiness phase implied to date.
As the National CSO Platform for Climate Change and REDD+, it is paramount that you keep up to date with all the work done to date under our National REDD+ Program.
Thank you again for being very proactive and for all your enthusiasm in the CSO consultations to date on the readiness phase of the REDD+ program for Vanuatu.
It is important that the platform continues with the free prior informed consent and to empower and sensitise the civil society and the indigenous population on 'what is REDD+'. The experience gained at the Efate CSO consultation in Epule Village has been rewarding and we will maintain this momentum.
Kind regards
Charlie
